Sorry I've not posted. I'm too busy to write much but homework.
I read The Last Days by Scott Westerfeld (nine kinds of fawesome), and the first two books in Montmorency by Elanor Updale.
I'm a starter in volleyball now. Yay! We have four games this week. Omg.
I like english class. And history... I have no idea why I like history.
Uh... pardon my spazziness and lack of posting. I'll post a nice big long one when vball ends in october, but I can't promise much more than weekly 'til then. |

| | Mexican Wine - Fountains of Wayne | ] | My muse is back! In an effort to avoid doing my homework, I came up with an idea for a short story... what would the world be like if chocolate were illegal? That would make for an overly sci-fi story, with dictatorships and such, so I decided to channel my idea into a very useful and fatefully forgettable spring holiday, with a dash of prankster's faux journalism thrown in. Add gullible characters, mix, and serve. Warning: This story is not yet completed. Proceed with caution.

| School. |
[Aug. 26th, 2006|10:29 am] |
I've had three days of school now. Being a sophomore is strange. So... let's go thru my first impressions of my classes, in order.
1 - PE - Ack, as usual. Wakes me up, tho. And I get to petition out after testing and until volleyball ends. But it's wierd to go to Keney first thing instead of 7th hour, and it's so hot in there that doing my makeup in the morning is almost pointless. Dunno the class divisions this year. 2 - History - Uh... not as cool as last year. Mr. Vaughn isn't so fun when he has no one to argue with or tease (The class lacks Isaac and Russell this year. Sad.) But Lauren and Karen are in it whith me, so that's good. Modren history is still sorta interesting, I guess. 3 - English - By far my favorite class and teacher. And I like the subject itself, too. Can't go wrong with British Lit. Mr. Mitchell (Matt - I can't decide whart to call him yet) is very funny, and talks like he's just having a conversation, not teaching. He's great, and especially refreshing after Suslick. Relevant people present: Lauren, Karen, Avanti, Kareem (It's nice to have him in in a couple of my classes again. Admittedly, Matt doesn't require help to be funny, but still.) Most of my quotes so far come from this class. 4 - Math - Algebra 2. I die from boredom. Had Mr. Bild (king of bad puns) subbie year, so he's nothiung new. At least now I understand a passable amount of the work. So far. Classmates: Karen 5 - Chorus - Not much less boring than last year. I might drop this class. I need the consistent free period for my sanity. Fellow singers: Leslie, Avanti 6 - Art - It's okay. Mrs. Evans is still a bit annoying, but it's nice to be a bit creative. No friends here, they're all in theatre arts, but Russell and Skoza are in the class. 7 - French - Uh. No Mr. Garvey this year, it's Mme Lopez again. Only Sheri dropped from the class, but we gained a transfer, and, unfortunately, Chelsea. Bossy brat. Friends: Lauren. Sad not to have all my classes with her anymore. 8 - Chem - I'm gonna die. Bergandine is too serious, and I only understand like 10% of the things he says. How the hell is everyone coming up with all those numbers? What's the secret? I predict worse grades than in algebra, which is very sad indeed. I want bio back. On the bright side, there's Kareem for some entertainment and interest, as well as Leslie, Karen, and Avanti. Lauren ought to join the party, but no, she has a free period. Actually, it's not really a party at all. Too boring and confusing. (9ish) - Volleyball - Is tiring. But I'm not sore anymore. The main drawback is that I have less time for homework, and therefore little free time or time to sleep.
Yeah. So I have way, way too much homework for the first week, despite my being told that sophomore year is easy. We'll see. I only had four and a half hours of sleep to work with yesterday. Five subjects a day had better not be the usual load. |

| Where did summer go? |
[Aug. 20th, 2006|12:03 pm] |
So. Lately I have:
Had double volleyball practices. 3 1/2 hrs. of vball per day for 5 days = owwww I'm on JV again (middle hitter). So's Leslie. We played HP & GoF on Playstion2 at her house between practices. We beat it.
Been shopping. Bought new jeans and shirts. Yay. One says "THINK: it's not illegal yet."
Went to book bar (Lauren's house between) and the orientation picnic yestaday. Not terribly exciting, but I had a much better time than last year.
Practiced driving. First time on the interstate today. Drove to school and back with dad, and to get gas.
Watched alot of CSI. Won't see so much once I've got homework again, so I'm trying to catch up on reruns.
Not been online much, hence the lack of entries.
I don't feel terribly verbose today, so please excuse the lapse in complete sentences. |

| I found the rum, Jack! |
[Aug. 13th, 2006|11:02 am] |
So I helped my mom clean out the liquor cabinet this morning. My dad decided that we should get rid of everything that was already opened, and then give the unopened stuff as gifts. So, I got to dump out lots of bottles and taste a drop of each so I'd know what they were like in the future. I think our kitchen sink might be a bit tipsy now. So, I had fun with that. I like blue caraco: it tastes like oranges, but it's very blue. I made up a drink to make with it, too. It's really sweet and strong, so you add some club soda to blue caraco first. Then you drop in some red hots, and a drop of red food coloring. Taa-daa! The flying purple people eater, with a spicy sweet cinnamon orange taste! I'm gonna try it when I turn 21.
So, I was looking over the bottles we were going to keep, and lo and behold, I found a brilliant Pirates of the Carribean reference. So of course I had to take pictures. I tried to make an icon, but you can't read it when I make it small enough. If you can't tell, there are trading ships in the background, and it says "West Indies" between "Port Royal" and "RUM". Anyhow, enjoy yourselves:

So I drove again yesterday. Lauren and I learned how to parallel park. She's quite a bit better at it than I am. She parked perfectly three times, and I parked well the first time, but the second time I overdid everything and ended up on the curb, and the second I had to make a lot of correctional moves to get it straight. I found that I have issues with perpendicular parking if I don't have anything but lines to judge off of. I end up really crooked. Other than that, I'm alot better and alot calmer now. I'm more sure of my decisions.
Had my sleepover last night. We mostly watched movies. Love Actually is really good, even though it drove me crazy because I recognized several of the actors, which is almost never the case with me.
I'm really sad today. I dunno why, I think I just feel icky about myself.
I have to mow the lawn. Argh.
Later. |

| | Under the Gun - The Killers | ] | So after driver's ed today I had my first behind-the wheel lesson. It was me an' Lauren an' Santaman. You kno Santaman has a somewhat southern accent? How contradictory of him. Yea. So Lauren made me go first and it started raining like 5 minutes after I started, and then it got really heavy. I've never driven in a city (meaning here a town with stoplights) before today. It went fairly well, but every time i got calm, I'd make a mistake. Once I went up onto a curb, once I drifted into another lane without signaling, and once the stoplight confused me so much when I was making a right turn that I tried to go when I should have stoppped and he had to use his instructor's brake. I was both tense and spacy. Not a good combo. Lauren said I looked scared and stiff. It wasn't too terribly bad, but I'm not looking forward to doing it again tomorrow morning.
( Recent random summer quotes )
I have finished The Remains of the Day, and I found the ending to have a really good lesson, despite the fact that the rest of the book would be perfectly sufficient without 75% of its legnth.
I'm getting back-to-school jitters. I'm nervous. I don't wanna work so hard and do homework and get up early, but I miss people. And learning, strangely. I'm really feeling like I'm running out of time to get myself ready. I have only a week until volleyball starts, and the school starts a week and two days after that. Aaah! Where has summer gone? Must shop for clothes again soon. |

And I found out that I'll be back home this coming Monday, so Karen, we can have our sleepover at my house between then and the 14th, and we don't have to worry about arranging it at Lauren's. I read some more of The Valley of Secrets on the way there, but it's one of those books that's all description and almost no plot. I've given up on it and started on Children of the Alley, the translated Arabic book that Kareem lent me. I'm not too far in it, but it's quite good so far.
I beat my mom and grama at Scrabble today. And we left Cassi with grama. And I'm not interesting today, so I'll write later when I am.
Oh, wait, my grama was in the production of Oklahoma! in the biggest nearby town to hers, and it was really good. I'd never seen it before. They had professional actors doing the lead parts. The merchant guy was hilarious. There is a ton of kissing in that play.

| | Under the Bridge, and Hallelujah | ] | I'm babysitting Cassi ALL DAY. Her little freind is over now. They're playing with barbies. They are so blonde, it kills me.
So my dad is probably gonna go to this social anxiety therapy thing in St. Louis for two weeks, and my mom is going with him so that he won't have to stay in the hotel alone and she can have a break. So that means us kids all get shipped off for the better part of two weeks (dad gets the weekend off, so they'll come back an' then leave again) They're taking Kenz to my cousin's in Columbus, Ohio as we speak. I have to stay near Champaign as I can't miss two weeks of driver's ed. I'm staying at Lauren's (Karen, this means we could have the whole gang come to Lauren's for a sleepover! Let the fun begin!), and her mom is gonna be really nice and take me to driver's ed three times a week. Cassi is gonna stay with Grama. We're taking her tomorrow. Yeah, this is all kinda sudden, but my dad wants to do it now, 'cause he has medical clearance to go back to work after it. And my mom really needs a break.
So yesterday was driver's ed. We watched "The Ultimate Driving Challenge" and I aced another hideously easy quiz. So afterwards I found out that Lauren had called my mom and asked if I could meet her at the mall. I've been dying to go shopping. So we went shopping together. I actually found some jeans that I like and that fit me really well! This almost never happens, so I was happy. I'm wearing them now. So Lauren's mom was gonna take me home, but then we decided to hang out at her house for lack of anything better to do. And then I ended up spending the night. First we painted Lauren's bookshelf some more. The black paint I used wasn't cooperating. We played Sims2 for a bit cuz I'd never seen it, and checked some websites. Isaac's profile said he'd like to meet SmarterChild, so Lauren showed me SmarterChild, hence my previous post. And we then tried to make some jewelry but my pretty blue bracelet fell apart and I was very pissed off. So then we watched "The Breakfast Club" on TV. 'Twas good to see it again. We figured out that the "criminal" guy reminds us of Kareem alot. Then we slept. So I handn't been home for 24 hours.
So now I'm trying watch kids and do something with my day. Read my book or something. Guess what? I get $100 for watching Cassi when my mom and dad get back tonight. Sweet. Usually I get $5 an hour, so that's a considerable raise (I'm watching her from noon to nine today). What to do with it? Books? iTunes gift card for myself? Clothes? Save it for gas after I get my car (Haha, not.)? Save for my own laptop? Oh! An iPod!!! I will buy myself an iPod. Maybe. Maybe I'll buy clothes. It depends on what my mother will pay for. I must not spend it on books. I already spend all my own money on books. And I don't need more right now.
So I think I'll finish that meme from the other day, and then read my book. ( More meme )
A random recollection. The Cingular guy my mom talked to the other day was named Mr. Vaughn. 'Twas funny. Another one: Did you know that Mr. Rogers always wore long sleeves on TV because he had tattoos all over his arms from when he was in the US Navy? He didn't want to scare the little kids. Amuse your freinds at a party. |

| | Memory | ] | Went to driver's ed today. Learned about -ometers and warning lights and turn signals and junk. Watched the drunk driving video. I love the Egyptian penalty for it: they fine you, then drive you 20 miles from the nearest town and make you walk back. In Egypt. Australia's good too: they send your name to the newspaper and publish it for ten days under the headline "He's drunk and in jail!" In San Slavador it's not so cool: death by firing squad on the first offense. Harsh.
Then daddy took me to the Monticello driving facility to get my learner's permit. I got it, but the guy working there was an asshole. He was grouchy and strict and ugly and old and crotchety. Apparently I have to wear glasses or contacts when driving. Duh. He reminded me of Argus Filch quite alot. But the lady who was working there was really nice and she graded my test. It was on paper, so I had to take the whole test. I only missed one question. So, now I can legally practice driving. Instead of illegally practicing. I can sign up for my behind-the-wheel lessons now, Lauren. When do you want to do it?
I want to read now, but I should clean out my closet so I can shop tomorrow. Difficult choices.
I didn't dream last night. Poo. |

| | Breakfast at Tiffany's | ] | I just went to see You, Me, & Dupree with my family ('cept Cassi - duh). Yeah, so it was good and funny and all, but that's not the point. We played some air hockey before the movie and I put my purse down by the table so I could play. Then I had to carry a big drink in to the theatre. At the end of the movie I looked for my purse on the floor by my feet, 'cuz that's where I usually keep it when I sit down. But it wasn't there. I thought it had been in my lap, but nope, not there. So I looked by the air hockey table. Not there. I was like "Shit!" So then I asked the management if they'd seen a small black purse. No. Have I mentioned that I had like $80 in my purse, plus all my makeup? And my school ID, which is a pain in the ass to replace? I kinda freaked out. So I wrote my phone number down and they said they'd call me if they found it. So we drove away and I freaked and asked if I could go look again. The manager guy got a flashlight and took me in 'cuz the next movie hadn't started yet. He was really nice and asked me if the movie had at least been good. I looked under our seats and the ones in front of us. And he was looking in our seats, and he found my purse wedged between mine and Kenz's seats. He couldn't have found it without the flashlight. I was so incredibly relived. It had been hard to see before because it was dark and under the armrest and close to the color of the floor and seats.

And something occured to me while watching it; You know how Davy Jones cut his heart out because he couldn't bear heartache? And it kept beating? How the hell does that work? Never mind that he (impossibly) kept living without it, and a that your heart isn't what gives you feelings in the first place. I take issue with the way the heart prop apparently functioned. A heart has to have blood in it to make a beating sound, especially one as lively as the one in the movie. And the heart in the box was obviously not filled with blood. And if anybody wants to argue that it did have enough blood in it to beat, then consider this: When a heart is beating it is pumping blood, is it not? It pumps blood out of itself. So if it was pumping blood, then why wasn't blood gushing out of the arteries with every contraction of the heart? It's a badly designed prop all around. So, do you want to know what conclusion I draw from all this? This is what I think: I paid too much attention in biology. And I'm too damn observant for my own good. |

| | Hanging by a Moment | ] | So yesterday I went to the Cingular store with mom an' dad an' Cassi and we talked to the nice guy that worked there about getting a family plan with them so I can have a cell phone and mom and dad can pay less than they do with Cingular. We talked to him awhile, and decided to get Nokia 6102i phones. I ordered them today online.
Ja, so after phones we ate at Panera and then got Karen and went to PYOP where I painted a platter and she a neato square plate, and then I was joking around with jewelry boxes (I made them talk) and I accidentally knocked over a seahorse figurine and had to buy and paint that too, 'cuz I broke its head off. And then we had to go cuz Kenz got home early, and we went to pick up Lauren on the way home, as she was bored. We played pool and Scrabble and junk. 'Twas fun. "thud" was a word that Kenz played, and then my mom started to joke about putting her "E" in front of "pit" for ePit, and then I got an idea; I said, "'iThud', like when you drop your iPod!" and it was funny 'cuz Lauren believed me for a sec there.
Karen, we need to have a sleepover soon, you and me. We can rent Reduced Shakespeare or Monty Python's Flying Circus or somesuch that I'm not aware of but should be.
I have the feeling that I should be doing something. What is it? |

I'm watching Cassidy this morning. I'm very bored.
I finished Gideon the Cutpurse yesterday. I loved it. Accidental time travel to London in 1763 rocks. What makes me sad is that the next book in the Gideon Trilogy, The Tar Man, doesn't come out 'til next summer. :(
I'm listening to Mugglecast until Cassi gets bored with her TV show and bothers me again. I think I'd like to paint now. I wonder if I can ge away with it without her asking if she can paint too. She can't use my acrylics, as they stain, and she won't be satisfied with watercolors if I use acrylics. Gah. So I prolly can't paint. Shit. Now I have nothing to do except hang out with a high-maintenance four-year-old.
Sorry for my whining. And yes, I do want cheese with it.
EDIT: Have I mentioned that I start driver's ed tomorrow? Well, I do. 9am-11am at Kenny. So. Now I feel old. Strange. |
